Russell Athletic WMS Implementation Report

Project Summary

Russell Athletic, a division of Russell Corporation, the parent company of Australian football icon Sherrin, and US sporting goods brand Spalding has successfully installed Microlistics Warehouse Management System into its Scoresby site.

Due to their ongoing growth in production and product turnover, Russell Athletic recognised the need to upgrade their Warehouse Management System (WMS) in early 2015.

Through consultation with WMS suppliers and other industry members, Microlistics was appointed the project and successfully completed the project from the Definition Phase (April, 2015), though the product and system testing (May, 2015) to project completion (August, 2015). This particular timeframe was of significant importance to Russell Athletic due to their peak Christmas period.

Project Aims

Russell Athletic’s vision was to install a WMS that provided greater accuracy with stock holdings and order picking, a more detailed view and reporting system regarding stock accuracy, a faster and more seamless integration with the existing ERP, and an increased awareness and accountability of both outstanding and completed tasks.

The Microlistics installation achieved all these criteria, and more.

Russell Athletic was previously using a ERP program based WMS. This was a good solution for their business pre growth stage, but following significant growth, this system was unable to deliver the daily, monthly and annual operating information, reports, and requirements essential to the management and warehouse teams.

Key points in the installation timeline for Russell Athletic were the Implementation Phase and the User Acceptance Testing. These demonstrated to Russell Athletic’s warehouse and management team the full potential of the Microlistics Warehouse Management System, its strength in product and stock reporting as well as day to day accountability. These phases also demonstrated to the team how seamlessly the Microlistics system integrated with the existing ERP and CRM systems.

Project Benefits

All of Russell Athletic’s project requirements were met, and exceeded, by the rolled out WMS with:

  • Higher accuracy of stock holdings Higher accuracy of order picking.
  • Detailed view and reporting on DIFOT, stock accuracy, etc.
  • Rapid updating of the ERP for completion of inbound and outbound orders.
  • Quicker processing of inbound and outbound orders.
  • Accountability for all completed and outstanding tasks.
  • Clarity on work status (picking, receiving, replenishment, cycle counts, etc).Ease of reshuffle work priorities.

Ongoing partnership with Russell Athletic

Since project completion in August, 2015 there have been ongoing developments and adjustments, driven by both the Russell Athletic and Microlistics teams, to ensure the seamless integration of the system into its environment. Further improvements are scheduled to increase product and work efficiencies, work flow and product flow operations and more in the months ahead.
